Bellamy Young was born in Asheville, North Carolina on 19 February the year 1970. The actress played Mellie Grant, the First Lady in ABC's Scandal. She also had a regular character in the role of Beth Clemmons on CBS's Criminal Minds. Also, she was a writer/producer with Shonda on Scandal and Private Practice. Both on Scandal as well as Private Practice. She graduated from Asheville High School in 1987. She went to Yale University majoring initially in Physics but ultimately studying English and Theater, and was graduated in the year 1991. Young spent one summer in England as a student at the British American Drama Academy during her college student. Young is a vegetarian and has been since 1988. In 2016, she participated in PETA's campaign titled "Being Vegan Keeps Me Young". Young has been a long-time advocate for adoptions from shelters.
